This lecture is covering the field of computer- and robot-assisted surgery. It deals with the medical process from preoperative image acquisition to intraoperative assistance along the path of surgical treatment. The main focuses of this lecture are image acquisition, medical image processing and segmentation, basics of robot and navigation systems, and intraoperative support and visualization via augmented reality. The aim of the lecture is to provide basic methodological knowledge concerning the setup of computer- and robot-based guiding systems. Students will be enabled to develop their own systems and to make important decisions in terms of the right design.Various examples from research projects and clinical practice as well as interactive exercises and trainings in small groups will provide a good overview on this gripping field of informatics.
