Center for Evidence-Based Healthcare

The Center for Evidence-Based Healthcare (Zentrum für evidenzbasierte Gesundheitsversorgung - ZEGV) is an interdisciplinary institution of the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden and the Medical Faculty Carl Gustav Carus of the Technical University Dresden. The primary aim of the ZEGV is to identify ways to improve the quality, effectiveness, efficiency and utility of medical interventions in routine care. Also, the goal is to enable the translation of latest research findings from basic research and clinical trials into routine care. The ZEGV also serves as an interdisciplinary platform to strengthen the fields of health services research, quality research and evidence-based medicine.

The scientists of the ZEGV are working in particular in the fields of oncology, pharmaceutical therapy and safety, health systems research as well as health services research with partners from various university hospital departments. Within these fields a broad variety of methods is being applied such as systematic reviews, outcomes research, quality and implementation research, assessment of patient preferences and shared decision making, organization and modelling of routine health care data as well as methods of health economics and health benefits assessment. To ensure high quality research based on the latest state of the art the ZEGV has a special focus on methods development and improvement. Through continuous teaching activities the methodologic expertise is passed on to medical and public health students of the medical faculty as well as students of other faculties of the TU Dresden.  

In the field of oncology a working group has been established at the ZEGV constituting a close collaboration of the ZEGV, the NCT as well as the University Cancer Center (UCC, Comprehensive Cancer Center). The working group has a special focus on the assessment and application of patient-reported outcomes in routine care as well as the usage of various routine data sources including data linkage and data integration to provide answers on central questions within health services research.
