In many patients, the tumor in the head and neck region is detected late, as it can initially grow unnoticed and rarely leads to symptoms early on. Complex treatment, such as that offered at our university center, is then often necessary when the tumor reaches an advanced stage. In addition, it is important to detect tumors at an early stage, which is a diagnostic challenge. This can be accomplished in a specialized center through interdisciplinarity.
To meet this demand, the interdisciplinary Head and Neck Tumor Center has evolved in recent years. Since 2007, the NCT/UCC has been certified by Deutsche Krebshilfe (DKH) as an Oncological Center of Excellence for the treatment of cancer. In 2019, the Head and Neck Tumor Center at the National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden (NCT/UCC) was established as an organ cancer center.
The Head and Neck Tumor Center at the NCT/UCC Dresden meets the quality criteria set by the German Cancer Society (DKG) and holds the distinction "Head and Neck Tumor Center with Recommendation of the German Cancer Society e.V.". In addition, the Head and Neck Tumor Center has a certified quality management system according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
The aim of the Head and Neck Tumor Center is to offer patients with tumor diseases in this area optimal diagnostics, individual treatment and aftercare according to the latest medical knowledge. Through close cooperation between the various departments, consisting of an interdisciplinary team of experts from the fields of otolaryngology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, radiotherapy, pathology, radiology and hematology/oncology, we ensure optimal, interdisciplinary, personalized therapy at the highest medical level and create individual concepts according to the latest scientific findings.
