What a small intestine tumor s and neuroendocrine tumors?
Small intestine tumors are tumors that originate in the small intestine. They can develop in different parts of the small intestine and have different characteristics. Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of the digestive tract are specialized tumors that arise from neuroendocrine cells. These cells have a dual function: the are both nerve-like and hormone-secreting. This means they produce hormones that can affect certain bodily functions. NETs can occur in various parts of the digestive tract, including the small intestine, stomach, colon, or pancreas.
Both tumors are rare and can have different courses. They require individualized and interdisciplinary care.
Diagnostics
To make an accurate diagnosis, we offer a variety of modern examination methods:
- High-resolution imaging such as CT, MRT and PET-CT for localization and staging
- Endoscopic procedures for examining the small intestine and obtaining tissue samples
- Endoscopic ultrasound to assess tumor extent and possible lymph node involvement
- Laboratory diagnostics including specific tumor markers.
Treatment options
Depending on the type, location, and stage of the tumor, different (individual) treatment options are recommended, including surgical removal of the tumor using minimally invasive (keyhole surgery) or open techniques, drug therapy, and supportive measures. Our team of spezialiced physicians will accompany you throughout the entire treatment process.
