Cancer Information Service, German Cancer Research Center

The Cancer Information Service is a department of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg that has been providing information on cancer since 1986. Patients, relatives and all those seeking advice receive free, science-based, easily intelligible information that is free from advertising.

Since March 2010, there has been a branch office of the Cancer Information Service at the National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden (NCT/UCC). ON toll-free number 0800 - 420 30 40, physicians in Dresden answer cancer-related telephone inquiries from members of the public daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

They take their time and address the individual concerns of cancer patients in detail, but also offer advice to relatives of cancer patients and all those seeking advice. They provide quality-assured information, give professional guidance and provide addresses of counseling centers and other contacts.

By the end of 2021, the team in Dresden had answered approximately 52,000 telephone inquiries. In cooperation with the NCT/UCC, the physicians of the Cancer Information Service in Dresden also offer a personal consultation hour by appointment. Cancer patients from the Dresden region and their relatives have the opportunity to receive background information on their disease and all related topics in a personal consultation. It is not mandatory to bring along previous medical reports, but this can be helpful for certain questions.

This offer is free of charge and does not involve recording personal data. Please note: The offer from the Cancer Information Service is not a subsitute for an individual medical consultation or second medical opinion. You can register for a personal consultation at the headquarters of the Cancer Information Service in Heidelberg on +49 (0)6221-42 2890. Colleages from the Dresden branch will then call you to arange an appointment. NCT/UCC patients who need an appointment during regular consultation hours should contact the registration desk of the NCT/UCC outpatient clinic as usual.
